According to Ron Holle (Holle Meterology & Photography), lightning is responsible for 24,000 deaths and 240,000 injuries per year worldwide. NOAA claims fishing and boating are the two largest sports resulting in those numbers.

As summer continues and temperatures soar the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning strikes rises. It [summer] also means more boaters are on the open waters cruising around; enjoying life. The last thing you want to happen is being caught on your boat during one of these storms.
