Mooring Seafood Bar & Grill Restaurant – Newport RI
Just on the other side of Bannister’s Wharf on Sayer’s Wharf is an elegant fine dining restaurant.
Seated at one of the 10 tables in the main dining room, a waitress stops by with butter in a medium sized butter cup dish and a brown paper bag containing a toasty warm roll. I selected a glass of Sangiovese wine which she carried in a ¼-carafe then poured into my wine glass. A favorite appetizer is the bag of doughnuts. Each bag contains 5 doughnuts the size of munchkins, soft and chewy, filled with just the right amounts of lobster, scallops and shrimp, but a tad greasy. The main course served a mouth watering long island duck with four shrimp cooked in coconut and red curry. Not being a fan of seafood, I have to tell you, everything was absolutely delicious!
In good weather, patrons can sit outside on the deck. Tonight was very windy; therefore, the plastic was down to keep it warmer. Seating is also available in the bar.
Prices – $9 glass of Sangiovese, $11 bag of doughnuts, $33 Long Island Duck (Special for evening). For reservations call 401-846-2260 or mooringrestaurant.com
